administrations prefer to use wireless, and in the case
of our most important neighbour, that is China, it can
be assumed that as they reconstruct their various system
of communications, that for telegraphy purposes wireless
and wireless only will be the medium used.
8. The question as to whether wireless should compete
with cables, is at the present moment being largely kept
before the public, chiefly I am afraid, by interested parties, who are more concerned with putting shares up and down ra her than the interests of the public, but I would say for the benefit of any person that feels influenced by this aspect, that in my opinion the cable company are quite safe for many years to come, that they will have to be content with less profit is most likely, but
that they will be reduced to an uneconomical state is I think unlikely. This question is really outside my sphere, but I do not know that locally a considerable amount of wild rumour is about, mostly of which is quite unjustified.
9. During 1927 two small short wave transmitters were constructed in our workshops and put into use, one with Manila and one with French Indo-China, they worked satis- factorily and had a marked effect on our revenue.
10. At the present moment we are working many of our services via Manila, with the result that a considerable portion of our fees are passed to this anila Station,
